Imagine being a single parent in Nevada with an infant and a preschooler. You work full time, but because your income is just above the threshold to qualify for child care assistance—$33,072 for a family of three—you don’t receive any support. That means 70% of your paycheck goes straight to child care, leaving only $818 a month to cover rent, food, gas, and every other expense.

For many families, this math simply doesn’t add up. And they’re not alone—Nevada ranks as the 8th least affordable state for infant care in family child care homes and 17th least affordable in licensed centers. Meanwhile, the Child Care Subsidy Program currently reaches only about 6.5% of eligible children.
